New Suicide Prevention Website

From the Brattleboro Reformer- The Vermont Suicide Prevention Center has a new website that center director JoEllen Tarallo-Falk said should be used by anyone who has concerns about a friend, family member or acquaintance who might be contemplating suicide.

This is not the site to go to in the middle of a crisis, Tarallo-Falk said; there are other professionals that should handle those situations.

Tarallo-Falk said the Vermont Suicide Prevention Center, which is a program of Brattleboro’s Center for Health and Learning, has been building the website over the past few months and for the first time Vermonters have a single source for the most recent data, training and information on suicide and suicide prevention.

“When you look at the data on the prevalence of suicide in our society, it is one of the top ten causes of death for all Americans, and one of the top three for youth and adolescents,” Tarallo-Falk. “We need to start treating it as a public health issue and this website will encourage more conversation about it, and allow us to provide cutting edge resources on what is a crucial health issue.”

The Center for Health and Learning is a training and education center that works with schools, social service agencies and professionals in a variety of issues ranging from physical and mental health, substance, alcohol and tobacco use and fitness.
