NAMI affiliates are supposed to be local mini NAMIs with their own programs, who understand and can better serve their local needs in education and advocacy. With their knowledge of local needs and their access to making local connections with individuals and organizations, Affiliates can lead the board to improve our advocacy and education strategies and to increase access to NAMI programs across the state. In a way, we already have the seeds for local NAMIs by having various locations for our family and peer support groups.
