NAMI VT Video Series for National Mental Health Awareness Month

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month and NAMI Vermont (National Alliance on Mental Illness of Vermont) is spreading the word about why it is so important to care about mental health.

In Vermont, one in five people experience a mental health condition in their life – one in 25 adults live with a serious mental illness. Half of all lifetime mental health conditions begin by age 14 – 75% by age 24. But, early intervention programs can help. The best treatments for serious mental illnesses today are highly effective; between 70 and 90% of individuals have significant reduction of symptoms and improved quality of life with the right treatments and supports.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a time for all of us to become inspired, informed and involved in building awareness and helping others learn more about mental health.

To help accomplish this, NAMI Vermont is offering up a new video campaign. Each week in May, we will post a video to our website and social media of a peer, a facilitator, a family member, a volunteer and board member, and a staff person to talk about why NAMI Vermont and our programs are important, why they became involved with NAMI, and how the power of caring can make a life-changing impact on others and on our communities.

Now is the time to care.  #NAMICares   #MentalHealthMonth   #WhyCare
