Margie Lemay – Interim Executive Director

In Laurie Emerson’s absence from the mental health field, Margie has agreed to take on the responsibilities of Interim Executive Director and lead the NAMI Vermont organization forward.

WILLISTON, VT  – In a pivotal moment for NAMI Vermont, Margie Lemay, former Office Manager and a long-time mental health advocate, steps up as Interim Executive Director. This transition follows Laurie Emerson’s 12-year tenure as Executive Director. Margie will serve in this interim capacity, effective July 1, as the NAMI Vermont Search Committee continues its search for a qualified candidate to fill the Executive Director position on a full-time basis.

“My thanks go out to her for helping make the hiring process as effective as possible,” said Chip Siler, NAMI Vermont Board President. “In the meantime, the work of NAMI Vermont goes on as before.”

Margie’s dedication extends beyond her eight years of professional work. She has served as a NAMI Vermont volunteer in various capacities. She is a teacher and trainer for our Mental Illness & Recovery Workshop, a teacher and trainer for the Provider program, and a teacher for NAMI Smarts for Advocacy. She facilitated our highly successful Williston Family Support Group for many years before handing the reins to another volunteer.

In addition to her volunteer work, Margie has also shared her own experiences as a family member of individuals living with mental health conditions at our annual Mental Health Advocacy Day. She has spent innumerable hours connecting with communities across Vermont at events such as conferences, fairs, and conventions.

Under Margie’s leadership, NAMI Vermont will continue to expand its programs, advocacy, and outreach efforts while seeking new funding sources and reaching different parts of the state and underserved communities.
