NAMI Vermont is excited to announce that our Spring 2026 NAMI Basics class is open for registration! This free, six-week educational course is designed for parents and caregivers of youth under 22, helping them navigate the challenges of youth mental health.
This course will begin on March 3 and meet virtually every Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 9:00 PM, until April 7. Best of all, it’s completely free and hosted by our dedicated team at the NAMI Vermont Virtual Affiliate. Participants will connect with others, gain valuable insights, and learn about essential resources.
These interactive courses, held for six weeks, will cover the following topics:
- Introduction: Mental health conditions are no one’s fault
- Brain biology and getting a diagnosis
- Treatment
- Communication skills and crisis preparation
- Navigating mental health, school, and juvenile justice systems
- Advocacy, self-care, and evaluation
This course is led by two trained volunteers who have firsthand experience caring for youth with mental health needs. Their personal insights allow them to guide discussions with empathy and empower families with essential skills and tools to effectively advocate for their child in both school and mental health systems.
To get the most out of this class, we encourage you to attend all sessions! If the dates and times conflict, please sign up for our waitlist for our next Basics class. After you register, one of our Basics teachers will follow up with you to confirm your interest in this program.
